I’m looking forward to when you can shop without checkout lanes by walking in grabbing your rfid tagged items and walk out. The info from the items and your credit card are radioed to the stores charge system without you having to stop. That would be cool.

RFID has many far reaching implications. Shopping without checkout lines is one of the possibilites. The problem with RFID is that it can also be used the wrong way. One possibility is that the government uses RFID to ‘tag’ all of their citizens. In a matter of a few second an entire office building full of people could be scanned to determine who is inside and retrieve detailed information on each person. We must take measures to ensure that this technology is used with discretion.
