We Need to Get Textbooks Out of Schools

I’ve been reading a series of articles in my home town paper, the Chicago Tribune, that have focused on textbooks in public and private schools. I’ve come to the conclusion that now is the time to get textbooks, as we know them, out of the schools and move to technology for the solution. I wrote an article back in January about my ideas on making the $100 laptop proposed by the One Laptop Per Child Group a reality. I believe current resources spent on textbooks that will be obsolete in another year or two to be a total waste of taxpayer money and that utilizing this type of technology would be the answer. Furthermore, as school districts become increasingly inefficient at spending money allocated to them by the government parents are more and more footing the bill for textbooks.
